HPV testing
Source BioScience Healthcare undertakes HPV testing in its
laboratories in Nottingham using either the Qiagen Hybrid capture
system or the Greiner Papillocheck PCR system for full
genotyping.
HPV triage testing is already used in some countries
and is under evaluation in UK.
There are two main methods are
- PCR, which is capable of
identifying the individual types of HPV
causing the infection. With the commencement of vaccination
this is likely to become more important to know.
- Hybrid capture, the original system developed by Digene and
presently being used in the 6 sentinal sites in England. This
identifies if a high risk HPV infection is present and also if the
infection is 'significantly large'
SurePath samples can be used with both
systems. Unlike other systems it needs no special treatment before
being used on PCR.
